A friend of mine sent this to me.

A son asked his father, ‘Dad, will you take part in a marathon with me?’  The father, who, despite having a heart condition, says ‘Yes’.  They went on to complete the marathon together. Father and son went on to join other marathons, the father always saying ‘Yes’ to his son’s request of going through the race together. One day, the son asked his father, ‘Dad, let’s join the Ironman together.’ To which, his father said ‘Yes’ too.

For those who don’t know, Ironman is the toughest triathlon ever.  The race encompasses three endurance events of a 2.4 mile (3.86 kilometer) ocean swim, followed by a 112 mile (180.2 kilometer) bike ride, and ending with a 26.2 mile (42.195 kilometer) marathon along the coast of the Big Island. Father and son went on to complete the race together.

My sister and I were driving home from a friend’s house and I got to thinking how strong a faith my sister has.  I asked her, ‘Do you love God?’  To have the kind of faith she has, I assumed she must love God.  She responds with ‘I trust in Him but I don’t say to Him ‘I love you God’ or ‘I love you Jesus.”  I was shocked and all I could say was ‘You don’t?’  And she in turn was surprised and asked me ‘You do?’   What she was actually trying to say was that she does love God but she does not directly say to Him ‘I love you God,’ although she says it with her children when they pray together.

We got to talking more about our faith and she asked me, ‘Are you a cracked pot?’  I went, ‘A what?’  She goes on with this… ‘Well, do you consider yourself a vessel of God?  And as a vessel, would you say you are a cracked pot or a perfect one?’  At this point, she just lost me but I wanted to see where this was going, so I continued listening to her.  ‘If you see yourself a cracked pot, you admit your faults, you admit you are not perfect, and it leads to the virtue of humility.  You learn and you grow to depend on God.  And if God is within you, His presence will shine through those cracks for others to see.  But if you see yourself already perfect, what need do you have of God?  And even if God is within you, you are so compact and closed that you keep Him all inside, not letting Him illumine forth.  You bind and limit His graces inwardly.’ 

‘You are His, His instrument.  Let Him work through you and allow Him to use you to reach others as well.’   Oh.  I know it’s something I really need to work on.  My key chain actually reads ‘Let Go. Let God.’

She said she got this from a daily inspirational/meditation book she reads.  Just something I felt like sharing.

I’m trying to come up with a post that is in a positive note.  Tried it with ‘Give Thanks’ but that didn’t work.  So, like this ostrich trying to fly, I’ll keep saying to myself ‘I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.’  I’ll start with wishing you all a good day and a joyful spirit.

I’m currently in Breckenridge , Colorado.  I anticipate relocating to Los Angeles on July 4th.  I’m supposed to start classes at the Los Angeles Film School (LAFS), July 7th.  I’m having a problem finding housing.  The LAFS will not release a student’s financial aid for two-weeks until after classes have started.  Their concern is that an individual will take the funds, and withdraw from the program.  It’s creating a problem for me, since all the apartment complexes I’ve spoken with are unwilling to rent without a complete payment immediately.  I’ve sent several bulk emails to my future classmates regarding the housing issue.  I’ve had mixed results, with the only strong possibility being with two teenagers (I’m 38).  I’ve emailed Father Francis.  He made some unsuccessful inquiries (I’m thankful his efforts).  I also emailed ten-hostels last week, and have recieved very few responses.

Do you know - or any of your colleagues - know of anyone who might be willing to 1)allow me to sleep on a sofa for a few weeks until I’m awarded my financial aid? or 2) rent a room for three-months to a year, knowing that I won’t have the rent funds for a few weeks?  I told the LAFS that I would forgo attending if I didn’t have housing arranged by July 2nd.  The program is two-years worth of courses compressed into one.  I don’t want to pursue housing while working on my coursework.  It will degrade my efficiency and adversely influence my studies; that is my situation.  I’m on a time constraint and need to finalize the issue as quickly as possible.
